Santa María Polo Club is preparing for an exciting season, in a location that is long established as one of the most prominent polo destinations in the world. As usual, the ‘Torneo Internacional de Polo’ will be played in August in Spain, and will feature three different levels of polo. The Torneo Internacional de Verano will start on Wednesday, July 25th and will come to an end on Saturday, September 1st.
Santiago Torreguitar, Santa María Polo Club’s Polo Manager, spoke to Pololine. “The season in Sotogrande continues as normal,” he shares. “We have the same amount of teams in the high-goal as last year, with few different players in each team, but it will be similar. Facundo Pieres is coming, as are Juan Martin Nero, Pelon Stirling and Pablo Mac Donough. In June and July we will host two level, 4-6 goals and 10-12 goals. Sotogrande is a bit more relaxed during that time. The fields are fantastic and the weather conditions are perfect.”
Regarding dates, Torreguitar states: “Polo will restart around the 27th of July, and come to an end on the last weekend of August, Friday 31st, and Saturday 1st of September. The format will be the same. The Bronze Cup is a single elimination tournament, and then we have the Silver and Gold which are league tournaments. We have to see the amount of teams that sign up, but we play on a league basis with semifinals and a final.”
