The World Polo Tour has announced its top picks for March 2018 after an intense month of action for the Dubai Challenge Cup, the USPA Gold Cup, and the high goal season in Wellington, where the US Open is in full swing.

The following are the latest changes in the world ranking:
-Gonzalito Pieres went from 6° to 4° place after qualifying for the final of the USPA Gold Cup. He displaced Pelon Stirling and Pablo Mac Donough; this means that the Uruguayan now sits in fifth position, and La Dolfina’s number three is sixth.
-Bob Jornayvaz moved from 10° to 9° after winning consecutive titles with Valiente. He takes the spot from Polito Pieres, who is now tenth.
-Hilario Ulloa, who will be playing for Las Monjitas in the Argentine high goal, went from 12° to 11° after reaching the semifinals of the USPA Gold Cup with DRF-Bets.
-Tommy Beresford, winner of the 2017 Queen’s Cup, and currently competing in the US season with Valiente, climbed sixteen places, from 35 to 19.

THE CHOSEN ONES:

PROFESIONAL: Facundo Pieres
The Valiente (26 goal) and Pilot (20 goal) player has demonstrated his talent and class, but also his scoring abilities, being the maximum goal scorer in several tournaments. He is sharing a team with Adolfo Cambiaso for the first time in his career, and so far they have claimed the three 26-goal titles: the CV Whitney Cup, the Butler Handicap and the USPA Gold Cup, which Facundo won for the first time. Valiente also has high chances of winning the US Open. Facundo claimed the 20-goal Iglehart Cup as well, with team Pilot, alongside his brother Gonzalo, Curtis Pilot and Timmy Dutta.

AMATEUR: Gillian Johnston
Her team Coca-Cola managed to win the first edition of the Carlos Gracida Cup. Gillian Johnston has long been much more than an amateur, and nearly every team she joins becomes a four player team. This 20 goal season at International Polo Club she has scored 17 goals.

PICK OF THE MONTH: Poroto Cambiaso
The Cambiaso surname and everything that it implies no longer exclusively refers to Adolfo; his children came into their own a while back. Poroto Cambiaso is maturing rapidly on the polo field, despite his young age (12). In 2017, he shared a team with his father in a proper tournament for the first time, even though they were not able to play many matches together. But in 2018 they paired up in the Sterling Cup (20 goals), and they won every game. Poroto’s sister Mia also competed alongside her father in the tournament, and she joined her younger brother on the podium.
