The USPA Gold Cup, second leg of The Gauntlet of Polo, resumed on Tuesday, March 16, with Tonkawa and Park Place claiming victories. The USPA Gold Cup sees teams up to 22 goals, broken down into two brackets, compete.
First up, Tonkawa and Cessna played a very close match. Cessna got off to a stronger start, but Tonkawa took control of the match in the third chukka, establishing a 5-all tie by half time. Tonkawa held onto the lead, commanded by their leading man, Sapo Caset. Cessna, far from giving up, fought back in the fifth. They managed to narrow the gap down to only one goal with one chukka left to play. But Caset was too much to handle: he scored two more goals to give Tonkawa the 9-7 win.
Up next, Park Place, recent winners of the CV Whitney Cup, defeated Aspen-Dutta Corp by 10 goals to 6. Following a 1-all tie in the first chukka, Park Place worked hard as a team, widening their advantage chukka after chukka and holding Aspen-Dutta Corp back, who were unable to stop the overwhelming dominance of their contenders. Park Place slowed in the last, having done enough to claim a remarkable win.
The USPA Gold Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, March 28.
