The league stage of the US Open have come to an end following a very busy day on April 11. As a result, six teams advance to the quarter finals, while four will compete in a play-off. The tournament, which is underway at International Polo Club Palm Beach, resumes on Wednesday with the first playoff game.
Monday saw Pilot take a victory to put them in quarter finals, while Polo Training Foundation, La Elina and Sol de Agosto also claimed wins. After the last match of the day, two penalty shootouts were agreed within each league to determine the fate of the teams that were tied in the final standings.
Penalty shootout – results:
Santa Rita, SD Farms, Casablanca and G-String took part in the penalty shootout to decide the only spot in the play-off for League A. It is worth noting that Park Place, Scone and Aspen Valley already secured their places in quarter finals, while La Elina qualified for the play-off. At the end of the day, SD Farms secured fifth place in the League and claimed the last spot in the play-off.
It was a different story in League B; Pilot was already in quarter finals; Tamera, Polo Training Foundation, La Fe, Sol de Agosto and AUDI had two wins and one loss a piece, meaning that they had to compete to earn two spots for the quarter finals and two spots for the play-off. The results mean that Tamera and Polo Training Foundation will play the quarter finals; La Fe and Sol de Agosto qualified to the play-off, while AUDI were eliminated from the competition.
The final of the US Open Polo Championship is due on Sunday, April 24.
