And it’s a wrap for the high goal season at the magnificient Al Habtoor Resort & Polo Club, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In front of packed grandsstands, on a warm and sunny Saturday February 22, UAE and Jehangiri went head-to-head in the championship match of the Dubai Gold Cup, the highlight of the polo season in Asia and the Middle East.

UAE, who claimed the trophy no less than five times, were ready to face the surprise of the tournament, newcomers Jehangiri, with the two highest rated players of the tournament, Gonzalo Pieres Jr. and Alejandro Muzzio, within the linuep. The contest was a very hard fought one, and the gap between the two lineups was very close – an average of only a single goal and a 3-all in the third chukka. In the fourth chukka, Benjamín Panelo subbed in for Alejandro Muzzio, who was unable to continue due to the pain caused by a heavy fall in the semifinal. And that’s when UAE seized the reins and earned significant advantages, led by Rosendo Torreguitar. Although Jehangiri tried to make a comeback in the last minutes of play, the deal was said and done. Luck was on Sheikha Maitha’s team, who claimed a 9-8 and captured the Dubai Gold Cup for the sixth time.

Previously, Dubai Wolves defeated Bangash 9-5 and won the Subsidiary Bentley Cup.
