The Ghantoot International Polo Championship commenced on Tuesday February 25, at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Formerly known as the HH President of the UAE Cup, it is the last high goal tournament of the 2025 season in the Middle East, and sees four teams in competition
In the first matchdate, played on Tuesday, title holders, Abu Dhabi, clashed against UAE, the recent winners of the Dubai Gold Cup. The contest was a fast paced one, with only a handful of fouls, with Alfredo Cappella and Lukin Monteverde as the most outstanding players. At the end of the day, it was Lukin the most accurate of the two, and who sealed the 11-10 win for Sheikha Maitha’s lineup.
Habtoor and Ghantoot played on the following day, with the two of them aiming to reach their first final of the season. Mohammed Al Habtoor’s team had a stronger start, earning a three goal advantage in the first chukka, but Ghantoot managed to bounce back, led by Gonzalo Ferrari and marcos Araya. Therefore, Ghantoot outscored Habtoor 4-0 in the last chukka, to claim an impressive 12-7 win.
