Action for the Turkish Airlines Gold Cup continued on Saturday August 24 with high goal and medium goal games. With regards to high goal, the packed grandsstands at Ayala Polo Club, in Sotogrande, awaited for the much anticipated match between Sainte Mesme and Dubai. The winner would go through the semifinals of the last tournament of the 53rd. International Polo Tournament.

 

Robert Strom’s foursome clashed against the recent winners of the British Open, in England and the Terralpa Silver Cup on Los Pinos Ground four. To everybody’s surprise, Dubai remained scoreless in the first chukka; however, they managed to make a comeback, but Sainte Mesme had other ideas in mind.

 

Under the command of Toly Ulloa and Alejandro Muzzio – the latter subbing in for Santiago Cernadas – who delivered thrilling performances, the black jerseys  produced a big blow and defeated the powerful Dubai by a 13-11 score, leaving them out of the semifinals. Therefore, Sainte Mesme join ATL in the competition’s next stage. Their contenders in semis will be revealed on Sunday.

 

  • MEDIUM GOAL

Electric Polo earned their first win in the medium goal Gold Cup, after defeating Amanara. This first win gives them hopes to remain in the contest. Brunei and John Smith – both already in semifinals – are due to play on Sunday August 25.

 

The finals of the Gold Cup are due on Friday August 30 (medium goal) and Saturday August 31 (high goal and low goal).
