The 53rd. International Polo Tournament Andalucía, at Ayala Polo Club, in Sotogrande, had a very busy Wednesday August 21, with the three levels of competition in action. While high goal and medium goal on their second matchdates, low goal made its debut today.

 

  • HIGH GOAL

ATL and Sainte Mesme opened fire, with the latter featuring a couple of strong changes, by hiring Santiago Cernadas and Pelayo Berazadi. However, ATL, led by Barto Castagnola, claimed an impressive 14-5 victory.

 

Up next, Kazak and MB went head-to-head in a much anticipated contest. Although the Brunei royal family’s team was a serious contender, it was Sébastien Aguettant foursome who earned a significant 14-11 win, under the command of Nicolás Pieres.

 

  • MEDIUM GOAL

 

The medium goal Gold Cup had two games on Los Pinos grounds, that saw John Smith and Brunei victorious over Electric Polo and Jolly Roger, respectively.

 

Gabriel Aguirre’s team made their debut agains Sarah Braune’s lineup, who lost in their first match. Both teams played a very balanced contest, until the fifth chukka, when John Smith bounced back and took a three goal advantage. At the end of the day, John Smith won by a 13-10 score.

 

Los Pinos ground three hosted the clash of the unbeaten, Brunei and Jolly Roger, in another very even match, with both teams exchanging the leadership, until Brunei were able to take the lead, that earned them a 10-7 victory. Therefore, the red jerseys have good chances to qualify to semifinals.

 

  • LOW GOAL

The results of the first day of the low goal Turkish Airlines Gold Cup are the following:

La Capilla 8.5-7 C.H. Kazuki

Essso 13-9 Polo Valley

 

The finals of the Gold Cup are due on Friday August 30 (medium goal) and Saturday August 31 (high goal and low goal).
