The Westchester Cup, one of the most prestigious test matches in polo, makes its comeback on Friday, March 31, at the National Polo Center, in Wellington, Florida, after a three-year hiatus. The locals have announced that their team will be composed by Matt Coppola (5), Nico Escobar (6), Jeff Hall (7), and Jared Zenni (7); while the visiting team be composed of James Beim (6), Max Charlton (6), Mark Tomlinson (6) and team captain Tommy Beresford (7).

A team filled with returning victors, England’s Beim and Tomlinson joined forces to win the 2013 Westchester Cup, while Beresford and Beim worked together to triumph in the 2018 edition. The England collective joins the competition this year eager to avenge their 2019 9-8 overtime loss. This victory marked the first win for the U.S. after an impressive run of four consecutive wins for England. The Westchester Cup has been played 19 times throughout its 137-year history.

The two teams are equally matched at 25 goals as the game will be played using the players’ highest handicaps, meaning that players will compete on their highest handicap on record. For England, all the players’ English handicaps match their world’s highest handicap level. For USA, several of the players will be handicapped based on their Argentine rating.
