In polo, vacations don’t exist, and despite still raising their glasses for the New Year’s toast, a new tournament has already begun in the United Arab Emirates. Just days before the start of the high-handicap season with the Dubai Gold Cup Series, the UAE Polo Federation Cup kicked off at DPEC.
The tournament features a total of nine teams with up to twelve goals of handicap. Each team will play two matches, creating an overall standings table, from which the top four teams will advance to the semifinals and then the grand final, scheduled for Sunday, January 19th.
The first three matches were played yesterday and today, with Lamar defeating Bangash 11-7, Abu Dhabi winning 9.5-4 against El Basha, and Habtoor edging out Bin Drai 6-5.5. So far, AM Team, Noon Team, and UAE Polo have yet to play their first matches, which will take place next Thursday.
