The result of the Queen’s Cup final may have surprised many. Considering the performances of both UAE and Scone throughout the season, the final was expected to be a close contest, with the possibility of an extra chukka on the cards.

The game was hard fought to begin with, as both teams presented battle in the first three chukkas. The score was tied 2-goals apiece by the end of the first, but Scone took a slight advantage in the second. UAE, however, evened the score in the third.

The fourth was where the magic happened for UAE. They took control of the match overwhelming Scone. Polito Pieres and Tomás Beresford lead an impressive attack, leaving Scone scoreless while Sheikha Maitha and her boys scored three unanswered goals to go 8-4 up by the end of the fourth.

While David Paradice and his boys did their best to fight back, the damage was done. In fact, Scone failed to score in the third or fourth chukkas. UAE were able to stay level headed and secure a 10-6 win, claiming the prestigious title at Guards Polo Club. The victory is a significant achievement for Sheikha Maitha’s remarkable organisation, which has been steered expertly by the great Lucas Monteverde.

The Subsidiary Cartier Cup went to Park Place following their 12-9 win over King Power.
