Scone and UAE have qualified for the final of the Queen’s Cup following their respective semifinal wins against Monterosso and UAE II, on Wednesday, June 23, at Guards Polo Club.

Therefore, on Sunday, June 27, at 3pm, Scone and UAE will battle it out for one of the most coveted trophies in international polo.

The first semifinal saw Scone take on Monterosso. These teams had already played against each other in the league stage of the tournament, and with Alessandro Bazzoni’s organisation had claimed a narrow victory. However, the semifinal told a different story. David Paradice’s team had no trouble dominating the match. In the first half, they took a wide advantage, allowed them to stay in control throughout the game.

Isidro Strada gave a fantastic performance, scoring no less than 9 goals for Scone. The organisation will be playing for their second Queen’s Cup title, having won their first in 2019 in their first ever high goal season in England. Scone’s main man, Adolfo Cambiaso, will be playing his thirteenth Queen’s Cup final.

The second semifinal marked a historic moment in English high goal polo, as two UAE teams faced each other. The occasion showcased how successful the UAE organisation is. With UAE’s HH Sheikha Maitha back in the saddle (Cata Lavinia had been subbing in for her throughout the competition), UAE and UAE II played a very hard fought contest, with both teams exchanging the lead.

UAE managed to take a narrow 10-9 advantage with just one chukka left to play. Sheikha Maitha’s boys were determined to give it all they had, and they managed to score three goals to make it 13-10, seal the win, and secure a place in the final.
