Scone, current title holders, and Les Lions/Great Oaks qualified for the semifinals of the Queen’s Cup, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, following their respective victories on Saturday, August 15.

The first match of the day saw Scone take on Monterosso. The match was tied at 2-all in the first chukka, but the defending champions took control of the match in from second chukka onwards. By the fourth, Scone has claimed an impressive 8-3 lead. Nicolás Pieres gave another outstanding performance, leading his team to a 12-9 victory. The win means that Nicolás will meet his his two brothers, Gonzalito and Facundo, in the tournament semifinal, when Scone face Park Place.

The next match was one for the books, as the Castagnola brothers faced the Cambiaso father and son duo, as Les Lions/Great Oaks took on Next Generation. The stars did not disappoint – it was an intense, hard-fought match. Les Lions/Great Oaks, led by the two Castagnola brothers, Bartolito and Jeta, managed to claim a slight advantage halfway through the match. In the fifth chukka, Adolfo Cambiaso suffered a back injury and had to be replaced by Juan Martín Zubía. The game was tied on several occasions, and in the sixth, the score was level at 10-goals a piece, sending the match into extra chukka.

That was when Barto sent a great pass Jeta’s way, who took the ball and scored a fantastic goal to seal the deal, securing the 11-10 win for Les Lions/Great Oaks and a place in the semifinals, where they will face Thai Polo NW.
