The Queen’s Cup, one of the most important polo tournaments within the international calendar, will come to and end on Sunday June 27. Scone and UAE will ride onto The Queen’s Ground, the main field of the club set in Windsor Great Park, with the promise of a great championship match seeking for the coveted trophy, established in 1960, to honor Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
David Paradice’s Scone will attempt to claim their second Queen’s Cup – they surprised everybody when they won their first title back in 2019 when they made their debut in the British high goal. On that occasion, the lineup included Nicolás Pieres, the only member of the legendary polo family who had never received the trophy from Her Majesty the Queen before. So, the Australian patron will have a big opportunity to make it two, with a lineup that includes rising star Isidro Strada and no less than the Cambiaso father and son duo. The extraordinary Adolfo will be able to play his 13rd. final of the Queen’s Cup, which marks another remarkable achievement in his brilliant career. Together with his son, Poroto – who has been raised to 7 goals in the past week by the Hurlingham Polo Association – they will have their rematch as well – in 2020, they lost to Great Oaks Les Lions.
For UAE, this final is a very significant achievement that marks the steady growth of HH Sheikha Maitha’s organisation, that has the priceless support of the great Lucas Monteverde, without doubts the man behind the current success, earned after years of hard work. UAE had no less than two teams playing the Queen’s Cup, and moreover, they faced each other in semifinals, with the “big brother” (UAE) defeating the “little brother” (UAE II) in a very tough contest. It is worth noting that UAE II’s lineup had 15-years-old Lukin Monteverde, Lucas’ son, who is already one of the biggest sensations among the young and new faces in polo. Definetly, UAE have put a powerful team together to meet Scone in this final – HH Sheikha Maitha is joined by Polito Pieres, Tomás Beresford and Tomás Panelo, another young and talented player, and a crucial piece within the team in the seasons in Dubai.
So, off we go – definetly, Scone vs. UAE is a promise of great polo; a great final is expected, the ice of the cake of a very competitive tournament, that will see two powerful teams going head-to-head for the title, a title that perhaps won’t be decided until the last minute of play.
