It was a Sunday to remember for the UAE organisation as both UAE and UAE II qualified for the semifinals of the Queen’s Cup after claiming respective wins against Murus Sanctus La Magdeleine and Park Place, on Sunday, June 20. The prestigious tournament, hosted by Guards Polo Club, sees fifteen teams, up to 22 goals, compete.

In the first match, played at Zacara, UAE beat Murus Sanctus La Magdeleine (with Max Voelker filling in for Alexandre Garesse), by 10 goals to 9. Murus Sanctus La Magdeleine were able to take a slight advantage before half time, but UAE took the lead in the two following chukkas.

Murus Sanctus La Magdeleine fought back, tying the game 9-all in the fifth. A hard fought sixth chukka followed, but UAE were able to control Murus Sanctus La Magdeleine and score the crucial goal that gave them the win.

Up next, UAE II and Park Place (Andrey Borodin was replaced by Sebastián Petragallo) went head to head at Les Lions. The match was tied 6-all by half time, but Park Place took control of the game and widen their advantage. With only one chukka left to play, Park Place had taken an 11-8 advantage. Victory was within grasp for the boys in blue, but a determined UAE II made an impressive comeback in the last, scoring four unanswered goals to take the 12-11 win and qualify for the semifinals.

It is interesting to note that both quarter finals were rematches for the UAE lineups, having played Murus Sanctus La Magdeleine and Park Place, respectively, in the league stages. Those matches garnered different results, with Park Place taking a 12-8 win over UAE II on June 12, while Murus Sanctus La Magdeleine claimed a 15-10 win over UAE on June 14. The UAE teams will now face each other in the tournament semifinals. The victories mark a huge success for the whole organisation, as one of the UAE teams will definitely play the prestigious Queen’s Cup final.

The final of the Queen’s Cup is scheduled for Sunday, June 27.
