Emlor did it again! Spencer McCarthy’s team claimed a narrow 8-7 win over Four Quarters Blacks to reclaim the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother’s Centenary Tournament, on Sunday, May 15 at Guards Polo Club. As was the case in 2021, this year’s final was a hard fought match, played in poor weather conditions.
The tournament is the club’s tribute to Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen Consort of the United Kingdom through her marriage to His Majesty King George VI, to mark a very special milestone: Her 100th birthday. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, born in Glamis Castle, Scotland, in 1900, became known as The Queen Mother following the untimely death of her husband in 1952. She married Prince Albert Duke of York (the future King George VI) in 1923, and had two daughters, the current monarch Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, born in Mayfair, London, in 1926 and her late sister, Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, born in 1930, at her mother’s family home, Glamis Castle.
Meanwhile, Jolly Roger King of Polo CH claimed an impressive 8-4 win over Altamira to secure the Subsidiary Trophy.
