One of the most significant tournaments of the international calendar of polo, the Coupe d’Or, commenced on Tuesday August 13 at the Deauville International Polo Club, set in Deauville, Normandy, in France. The Coupe d’Or, which has been played since 1950 onwards, is the culminating moment of the Barriere Deauville Polo Cup, and sees five teams up to 16 goals, in participation, a lineup that includes the current title holders, Barriere-Télédou.

 

In the opening day, Tuesday August 13, Eternal J earned a narrow 7-6 win over Mungo; meanwhile, on Wednesday August 14, Talandracas needed an extra chukka to beat the recent winners of the Coupe d’Argent, Marqués de Riscal, by a 7-6 score. Rufino Bensadón produced the winning goal, with two minutes remaining in that extra chukka.

 

COUPE DE BRONZE

The low goal tournament, the Coupe de Bronze, has also kicked off on Tuesday August 13, and it is played simultaneously with the Coupe d’Or, The contest sees five teams between 6 and 8 goals, compete.

The finals of the Coupe d’Or and the Coupe de Bronze will take place on Sunday August 25.
