Following a two day delay due to poor weather, action for the Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy, resumed on Tuesday May 16 with two games, that were played on King Power’s and Black Bears’ grounds, respectively. The Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy, one of the most significant competitions in England opens the high goal season in the country and it is hosted by the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club. The tournament sees ten teams up to 22 goals, partake.
The final is due to be played on Saturday May 20.
In the first match, Park Place Vaara got off to a stronger start, that saw them leading by an impressive 6-2 halfway the first chukka. But from then onwards, King Power managed to bounce back. They seized the reins, dominating the the contest; the Thai lineup ended up outscoring Park Place Vaara 12-2 thoroghout the remaining chukkas, which eventually led them to their first win of the season.
Up next, both the locals, Black Bears, and their competitors, Surjan Indian Tigers, were determined to seek a first victory in the tournament. But it was Guy Schwarzenbach’s team who demonstrated to be solid enough, based on a powerful and very good team play, which was crucial to reach a 7-2 lead by half time. Black Bears maintained their dominance in the following chukkas, that allowed them to seal the deal in the fifth chukka.
