The semifinals of the USPA Gold Cup, second leg of The Gauntlet Of Polo, have been revealed after the quarter finals played through Saturday March 15 and Sunday March 16, at the National Polo Center, in Wellington, Florida, United States, The four teams who will go head-to-head for the two spots in the final, due on Sunday March 23 are La Dolfina Catamount, Brookshire, Park Place andCoca Cola.

 

Tha quarter finals began on Saturday, with a single contest, the the family clash between the Cambiasos. La Dolfina Catamount, with Poroto, defeated La Dolfina Tamera – the recent winners of the CV Whitney Cup – with his father, Adolfo, by a 12-11 score, in a very close game, that was decided by Scott Devon’s foursome in the last chukka. Poroto Cambiaso was the key player of the team, and the top scorer, having produced no less than nine goals.

 

The three remaining quarter final matches took place on Sunday. Brookshire, under the command of the indomitable Jeta Castagnola, overwhelmed Clearwater to earn an impressive 13-5 win; Park Place beat La Fe Eastern Hay 14-6, in a hard fought contest, that saw many fouls and yellow cards. Park Place’s patron, Andrey Borodin, suffered a fall in the sixth chukka, and he was subbed in by Gabriel Crespo. Last but not least, Coca Cola claimed a 12-8 victory against Dutta Corp.

 

The semifinals of the USPA Gold Cup will be played on Wednesday March 19, with the following order of play:

11am: Brookshire vs. Coca Cola

3pm: La Dolfina Catamount vs. Park Place

The USPA Gold Cup was established in 1974, and has been played at many different states and clubs, such as Oak Brook Polo Club, in Illinois, Milwaukee PC, in Winconsin, Greenwich Polo Club, in Greenwich, New Bridge Polo Club, among others, and was relocated in Florida, in 1979, at Palm Beach Polo and Country Club. Some great teams took home the title more than once, including Valiente (2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018), Audi (2011, 2015), Crab Orchard (2007, 2010) and Scone (2021, 2023). White Birch holds the all-time record wins with 12 titles spanning three decades.

 

The Gauntlet of Polo will come to an end on April 20, with the much anticipated championship match of the US Open.
