The Dubai Silver Cup is stepping into its decisive stages in order to unveil those teams who will be able to play the final. Two games were played on Saturday January 25 – UAE vs. Ghantoot and Dubai Wolves vs. Bangash. According to the results, the finalists would have been revealed today, but never happened, so the wait will extend up to next Tuesday.

The undefeated Ghantoot clashed against UAE; a win for the former meant they would advance to the final, while UAE needed a victory to maintain their hopes. Both teams played a leveled contest, with the two of them exchanging the leadership. While Lukin Monteverde delivered a remarkable performance for UAE, it was Marcos Araya who commanded Ghantoot to come closer in the scores, but they were unable to tie. By the start of the last chukka, Ghantoot was one goal behind UAE, until it was Lukin who produced a couple of goals to secure Sheikha Maitha and her boys the much needed 9-7 win.

The follow-up saw the clash between Dubai Wolves and Bangash. For Bangash it was the last opportunity, while Habtoor Al Habtoor and Co. had to win to secure, at least, a spot in a penalty shootout. Although Dubai Wolves had a stronger start, Bangash, approached in the scoreboard slowly, under the command of Federico von Potovsky. Despite they never gave up, the efforts didn’t pay off –  at the end of the day, luck was on Dubai Wolves’ side and grabbed an impressive 12-7.5 victory.

The Dubai Silver Cup will unveil their finalists on Tuesday January 28, according to the following scenenario:

  • If UAE loses against Bangash, and Ghantoot beats Habtoor, Dubai Wolves and Ghantoot will advance to the final.

  • If UAE defeats Bangash, and Ghantoot loses against Habtoor, Dubai Wolves and UAE will advance to the final.

  • If UAE defeats Bangash, and Ghantoot beats Habtoor, there will be a penalty shootout between Dubai Wolves, UAE and Habtoor.
