Marqués de Riscal beat Barriere-Télédou (who received one goal on handicap), by a 9-7 score, and claimed the Coupe d’Argent-Diane Barriere Trophy, the first tournament of the Barriere Deauville Cup. The championship match was played on Sunday August 11, at the Deauville International Polo Cup, in Deauville, Normandy, France. It’s worth to note that the final was the clash of two champions of the Coupe d’Or: Alejandro Aznar’s Spaniard team won the contest in 2020, while the Isabelle Larenaudie’s French lineup are the current title holders.
The Spaniard team was the dominant force in the first two chukkas; however, Simón Zavaleta managed to produce some great goals to claim the lead and tied at 5-all with one chukka left. But Alejandro Aznar & Co. had another ideas in mind; led by Sapo Caset, the highest rated played on the field (9), Marqués de Riscal bounced back in the last chukka, which led them to the 9-7 victory and the title.
The next leg of the Barriere Deauville Polo Cup is the Coupe d’Or, one of the most significant and traditional tournaments of the international calendar, that is due to kick off on Tuesday August 13 and the final will take place on Sunday August 25.
