The 50th Anniversary of the Torneo Internacional de Polo by La Reserva Club de Sotogrande began on Monday, July 26. The tournament will present three cups: the Volvo Bronze Cup, the Terralpa Silver Cup and the 50th Anniversary Gold Cup. The event sees a total of twelve teams, split into two categories, compete. Six teams will play the high goal (18-20) and six will play the medium goal (12-14).
The action kicked off with three medium goal matches for the medium goal Volvo Bronze Cup at Ayala Polo Club. First up, ATL Marine & Energy beat Hodro 8-7, before Santa Quiteria defeated Nairobi 11-10. Finally, Cibao La Pampa took a 13-10 win over John Smith.
The high goal returns to Sotogrande on Tuesday (only medium goal and low goal were played at Sotogrande last year). Santa María Polo Club will host two powerful high goal matches: Ayala vs. Marqués de Riscal, and BN Polo vs. BP Polo. The latter will be streamed live on PoloLine TV.
Some of the best players in the world will be playing in Sotogrande this year, such as Adolfo Cambiaso and Hilario Ulloa, who both return to this amazing venue after five and ten years of absence, respectively. Guillermo Caset, Joaquín Pittaluga, Clemente Zavaleta and Polito Pieres will also be competing. Their presence will ensure that the 50th Anniversary of the Torneo Internacional de Polo by La Reserva Club de Sotogrande be magnificent as ever. They will be joined by many top European players, such as Pascual Sainz de Vicuña, Robert Strom, and Pelayo Berazadi.
Polo in Sotogrande started as a dream for Enrique Zobel and Ramon Mora. Today, the event celebrates 50 years since that first edition, back in 1971–a tournament that saw Rancho Portales, composed of M. Olazábal, A. Herrera, P. Domecq Urquijo and N. Gómez take the title.
The games of Sotogrande’s 50th anniversary tournament will be played between Ayala Polo Club, Santa María Polo Club, and Dos Lunas Polo & Dressage.
BOTH THE HIGH GOAL 50th ANNIVERSARY TORNEO INTERNACIONAL DE POLO BY LA RESERVA CLUB DE SOTOGRANDE AND THE MEDIUM GOAL SEMIFINALS AND FINAL WILL BE STREAMED LIVE ON POLOLINE TV HERE.
