The kickoff of the Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy, the opening The opening 22-goal tournament of the season in England had to be postponed on Wednesday May 10, due to the heavy rainfall that left the Zacara ground unfit to play. As usual, the competition is hosted by the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club, located in Winkfield, near Windsor.
The Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy is one of the most important competitions in English polo. It’s been played since 1986, in the club established by the late Bryan Morrison, the renowned music mogul who has managed the careers of several rock icons, such as Pink Floyd, The Jam, The Bee Gees, The Police and George Michael, among others. The club was officially opened in 1985 by the then HRH The Prince of Wales, today His Majesty King Charles III, who also was named its first member.
The 2023 edition of the Justerini & Brook Prince of Wales Trophy sees ten teams up to 22 goals, to battle for the title. Teams are split in two leagues. The current title holders, Twelve Oaks is among the participating lineups. It was expected that Twelve Oaks would open fire against Park Place, the recent winners of the US Open and the last winners of the Gold Cup; but following the delay, the match has been rescheduled to be played on Thursday May 18.
Weather permitting, the tournament will commence on Thursday May 11, at 11am (UK local time), with the match between King Power and Vikings, at King Power.
The final of the Justerini & Brook Prince of Wales Trophy is due on Saturday May 20.
