SebiLion defeated Newport 7-5, in the third and decisive match of the round robin, to win the Banyan Cup. The final day took place at Grand Champions Polo Club, in Wellington, Florida, on Sunday October 27. The tournament forms part of the 2024 Fall Season of the club established by Marc and Melissa Ganzi 18 years ago.
Newport previously beat Grand Champions by a narrow 8-7, a score decided with only 25 seconds in regulation time. The local team also lost to SebiLion.
The Banyan Cup is named after the Banyan Tree which can cover about 14,500 square feet of space, grow branches as high as 80 feet and thrive over two and a half centuries. As it grows, the banyan tree produces aerial roots that hang down and take root wherever they touch the ground.
The next tournament at Grand Champions Polo Club will be the Fall Plates, due through October 39 and November 3.
