The Queen’s Cup continued on Sunday, June 5, with the last quarter final matches, where La Magdeleine and Park Place Vaara claimed respective victories over Scone and King Power. The Queen’s Cup sees fifteen teams, up to 22 goals, compete.
First up, La Magdeleine came through with the surprise of the day, defeating David Paradice’s Scone, a lineup that included the Cambiaso father and son duo. The team was one of the strongest contenders to claim the title. The French organisation took the lead in the first two chukkas, but Scone managed to tie the game 4-all in the third. La Magdeleine came back with their best performance in the second half of the match, overwhelming Scone who were unable to battle back. At the end of the day, La Magdeleine claimed the 11-8 win to qualify for the semifinals. It is worth noting that the Scone’s eight goals were scored by the Cambiasos (four each), while Pablo Mac Donough and Min Podestá came together to score ten goals, five goals apiece, for La Magdeleine.
A much anticipated clash came next, as Park Place Vaara took on King Power, two of the most powerful organisations in England – and they didn’t disappoint. Park Place Vaara took the lead in the two first chukkas, but King Power took off in the third, tying the match 6-all by half time. The Vaara boys had other ideas in mind, however. They outscored King Power 2-o in the forth to re-take the lead. King Power, far from giving up, fought to secure another tie (9-9) with one chukka left to play. The sixth and last chukka was hard fought, but Park Place Vaara held King Power back to claim the 11-9 victory and a place in semifinals.
