The Queen’s Cup continued with the penultimate league round of the tournament as King Power, UAE and Scone claimed wins to qualify for the quarter finals, alongside Dubai who had already secured a place in the next stage. Guards Polo Club’s most prestigious tournament sees fifteen teams, up to 22 goals, compete for the title.
Reigning champions UAE qualified for the quarter finals following a 12-8 win over Marqués de Riscal, led by their powerful duo, Bartolomé Castagnola and Tomás Beresford, who worked together to score all 12 goals for the team. The match got off to a better start for Sheikha Maitha’s foursome, but Marqués de Riscal fought back in the third, fourth and fifth chukkas, securing a one goal lead over UAE with one chukka left to play. But UAE came back in the last to claim a very important victory.
Next up, King Power took a 10-8 victory over Monterosso. It was a hard fought game, with the teams exchanging the lead throughout. But King Power came through in the last to claim the win. Pelón Stirling was back in the saddle for Monterosso, while Diego Cavanagh filled in for Cubi Toccalino, and Pablo Mac Donough subbed in for King Power’s Nicolás Pieres once again.
