Park Place and Vikings are set to decide the first title of the 22-goal season in England, the Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy, one of the most remarkable tournaments of the country, hosted by the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club. Both teams secured their respective spots in the final after winning the penalty shootout that took place after the match. The 2023 edition of the contest sees ten teams up to 22 goals, in participation.
On Thursday May 18, Zacara greeted Park Place and title holders, Twelve Oaks. The match had a very close start with both lineups fighting hard in search of a place in the penalty shootout in order to earn a place in the final. Park Place bounced back in the third chukka, until they earned a four goal advantage after half time. However, Twelve Oaks were not about to give up that easily; led by a superb Cristian Laprida, they managed to close the gap to just one goal, and finally tied in regulation time to send the game into an extra chukka. Park Place’s Facundo Pieres failed to convert a 60 yards penalty, but his rematch came one minute later when he converted a corner that secured the victory.
For the penalty shootout, Park Place were joined by Dubai, Monterosso and Vikings. The penalties were converted by Facundo Pieres (Park Place), Jeta Castagnola (Dubai), Pelon Stirling (Monterosso) and Juan Martín Zubía (Vikings). At the end of the day Park Place and Vikings were victorious and they will go head-to-head in the championship match on Saturday May 20, at 3pm, at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club.
