The 12th Junior Tournament for the Santa Margarita de Escocia Cup and El Roble Cup was hosted at Martindale on Friday, November 12. The children’s tournament saw 28 teams compete. Teams were split into four categories: Mayores, Menores, Minis and X-Minis.
At the same time, the club together with the AAP organised three more tournaments – one for kids, through individual entries, and two for girls. The former saw four teams compete, while the other was for beginners. A total of 184 children took part in the event.
It is worth noting that the event had a very strong social leaning, with a lunch hosted to raise funds for Los Toritos – a charity that provides food and school support for over 300 kids in the village of Toro, in Pilar.
Many awards were presented, one of the most important being the Javier Novillo Astrada Fair Play Award. “The Javier Novillo Astrada Fair Play Award highlights the sportsmanship encouraged by our club, on and off the field,” the organisers stated.
Another interesting aspect of this event was the ‘Green Card’, an initiative by the AAP. The Greed Card is given by the umpires to kids who demonstrate true sportsmanship. Winners of a Green Card are able to exchange the card for an Argentine shirt.
Overall, the friendly atmosphere was the highlight of the Polo Kids Tournament at Martindale.
