Following the rain delay on Wednesday, the Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy kicked off on Thursday May 11, on King Power’s grounds. The tournament, one of the most remarkable events of the high goal polo season in England, is hosted by the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club, and sees ten teams up to 22 goals, in participation. Teams are split in two leagues.
Vikings remained in the lead thoroghout the six chukkas of play, with Juan Martín Zubía providing a fantastic performance, and very well supported by the two professionals, James Beim and Diego Cavanagh. Vikings had a comfortable 15-8 lead in the fifth chukka, but King Power managed to bounce back, and scored four consecutive goals to close the gap. Both teams battled hard in the sixth and last chukka; with around 30 seconds left in regulation time, Diego Cavanagh produced a fantastic goal through and open backhander, to secure Vikings the 14-12 victory.
The final of the Justerini & Brook Prince of Wales Trophy is due on Saturday May 20.
The Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy will resume on Friday May 12, with the match between Black Bears and Monterosso, at 11,30am (UK local time).
