Twelve Oaks took a tight 10-9 win over Great Oaks Les Lions in extra chukka to win the Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy, the opening tournament of the 22-goal season in England, on Saturday, May 14. The competition was hosted by the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club. It was an amazing success for Charlie Wooldrige’s team in their first ever British high goal season.
The much anticipated final got off to a better start for Dillon Bacon’s team, as they dominated the first two chukkas. By the end of the second, they had secured a 5-2 lead. But things would change from the third chukka onwards, when Twelve Oaks found their best form and narrowed the gap down to just one goal in the two following chukkas. They managed to tie the game 9-all in the sixth, which forced the game into extra chukka. Three and a half minutes into OT, Twelve Oaks were awarded a 60-yard penalty, which was successfully converted by Joaquín Pittaluga to secure the title for the team.
The 2022 edition of the Justerini & Brook Prince of Wales Trophy saw ten teams, up to 22 goals, compete for the title.
