Zapican BMW defeated Concord Equity Group by a 10-8 score and claimed the Joe Barry Memorial Cup, after the championship final that took place on Sunday January 26, at the National Polo Center, located in Wellington, Florida, United States. The tournament, that kicked off on January 8, saw five teams up to 16 goals, in participation.
In the semifinals, that were played on Friday January 24, Zapican BMW defeated Dracarys Polo 11-6, while Concord Equity Group earned a 9-6 win over San Saba.
The Joe Barry Memorial Cup, one of the most traditional competition of the season in Palm Beach, was established in 2005, as a tribute of Joe Barry, who passed away in 2002. Due to his achievements, that include six US Open Polo Championships, three USPA Gold Cup titles and a winner of the Coronation Cup, in England, in 1971, he was inducted into the Polo Hall of Fame in 1999. The Joe Barry Memorial Cup is the first qualifying stage of four prestigious tournaments, being the next three the Ylvisaker Cup, Iglehart Cup and Outback Cup, and culminates in the NPC 16-Goal Championship final which is due to be played on Sunday April 13 at the National Polo Center.
