The 56° Jockey Club Open Thai Polo Cup, one of the most prestigious competitions in Argentina, came to an end on Saturday, October 2, with the final – arguably the best match of the season so far. The tournament, which precedes the much anticipated Argentine Triple Crown, saw six teams, between 30 and 34 goals, compete. In the championship match, La Ensenada made a fantastic comeback to defeat La H by 17 goals to 12 and claim the coveted trophy at the iconic club located in San Isidro.
La H got off to an amazing start, securing a commanding 6-1 advantage halfway through the second chukka. But the flow of the game changed in the following chukka, when La Ensenada found their rhythm. They were solid in attack, and by prioritising team play they were able to cut the gap down to just one goal by the end of the third chukka. The match levelled out until La Ensenada claimed their first lead in the fourth chukka, which they managed to maintain in the fifth. The sixth saw La Ensenada at their best: they overwhelmed La H, outscoring them 6-0 to go 15-8 up with only one chukka remaining.
La H were not about to give up, however. They scored four goals in the last chukka, but it was too little, too late. La Ensenada scored a couple more goals to seal the deal and secure their first ever big title. It was a great start of the season for organisation, with they team demonstrating their strengths and potential. The title will surely give them enough confidence to take on the Triple Crown, which is due to start in a couple of days, in the best way possible.
The 2021 edition of the Jockey Club Open Thai Polo Cup was organised by Harald Link’s Thai Polo, with the support of Minuto Siete Polo. The best news is that the competition was hosted in its original home, the iconic club located in San Isidro.
