Abu Dhabi and Dubai Wolves by CAFU qualified to the semifinals of the Gold Cup after claiming respective wins over Zedan and Ghantoot on Saturday, February 26, at Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
First up, after two scoreless chukkas, Abu Dhabi, led by their top scorer Jero del Carril, seized the reins to take 7-3 win over Zedan. Next, Dubai Wolves by CAFU made an massive comeback against Ghantoot, scoring six goals in the last two chukkas to take a 9-7 victory and secure a place in the semifinals.
Therefore, the Gold Cup semifinals, due on Wednesday, March 2 have been set: Habtoor will face Dubai Wolves by CAFU, while UAE Polo will take on Abu Dhabi.
The Gold Cup forms part of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series, the most prestigious polo event in Asia and the Middle East, held under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
The tournament sees eight teams, up to 18 goals, compete. The finals are set to be played on Saturday, March 5.
