The Gold Cup (Dubai Open) continued on Wednesday, February 16, at Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club. UAE Polo and Dubai Wolves by CAFU claimed respective wins over Abu Dhabi and AM Polo.

The Dubai Open forms part of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series, the most prestigious polo event in Asia and the Middle East, held under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

The tournament sees eight teams, up to 18 goals, battling for the coveted trophy. The finals are set to be played on Saturday, March 5.

Following a 1-all tie in the first chukka, Abu Dhabi took the lead over UAE Polo in the second. In the third, however, Sheikha Maitha and her boys outscored their opponents 3-0, to take a 5-3 advantage. Abu Dhabi made a comeback, with goals by Jero del Carril and Santiago Cernadas, but luck was on UAE Polo’s side, and they took the 9-6 win.

The second game saw AM Polo take an early lead over Dubai Wolves by CAFU, but the Wolves replied quickly widening their advantage into the fourth, where they took a 5-goal lead. Alejandro Muzzio scored to put AM Polo back in the game, but the damage was already done. The Wolves scored three more goals to secure the 12-8 victory.
