Habtoor Polo Club opened its doors to the Dubai Gold Cup Series once again. The series of three most important tournaments in the region began this afternoon with the Silver Cup. Five teams with world-class players will compete in this tournament, seeking to win the first crown in the Middle East. To open the cup, Habtoor and Bangash faced each other, and then Dubai Wolves faced UAE.
In the first round, they faced each other on court 2, the current champion had a tough time against Bangash, who was looking to make a splash. The duel was even, although most of the time, the home team reigned on the scoreboard. Near the end, the team in blue managed to get a half-goal lead, but it was a joy that was almost ephemeral. Habtoor finally won 9-8.5 and began the defense of the title on the right foot.
The second duel began as the sun was setting and dusk was setting in Dubai. Wolves, the only team to retain their squad from last year, looked solid against the new formation of the UAE giants. They never got much ahead on the scoreboard, until with two minutes to go before the final bell, Habtoor Al Habtoor’s men extended their lead to three goals and ended up with the victory. Final result: Dubai Wolves 8-6 UAE.
