Abu Dhabi and Bin Drai are through the final of the Emirates Polo Championship International, that’s currently underway at Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Abu Dhabi and Bin Drai earned their spots in the decisive game after beating AM Polo and Ghantoot, in the semifinals, on Tuesday February 5.
Abu Dhabi and AM Polo played the first semifinal. The latter had seven consecutive wins and a title – the UAE Federation Cup – under their belt. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi were the runner up of the UAE Federation Cup and lost to AM Polo, precisely. Faris Al Yabouhi’s foursome claimed an impressive 3-1 lead in the first chukka, but AM Polo managed to tie in the two following chukkas. With one chukka remaining, the match was at 5-all. However, a determined Abu Dhabi seized the reins in the last chukka, and at the end of the day, they were victorious 7-6.
Up next, Bin Drai clashed against Ghantoot, the former one of the oldest and most prestigious organisations of the Middle East and the latter, the locals. Santiago Solari was the most outstanding player of the day and helped his team to reach a three goal advantage. Although Ghantoot managed to bounce back in the last chukka, the efforts didn’t pay off. Bin Drai won the contest, and will play the championship match against Abu Dhabi on Saturday February 8.
