On Thursday June 8, the Argentine Association of Polo (AAP), unveiled the calendar, format and venues of the upcoming Argentine Triple Crown, that will feature significant news for the 2023 edition: the most coveted polo trophy of the world will kick off with the 130th. Hurlingham Open, which means the other way round; the historically opening competition, the Tortugas Open will come second. The last leg of the will be, as usual, the much anticipated championship match of the 130th. Argentine Polo Open Championship, due on Saturday December 2.
This change have been agreed between the AAP, the Tortugas Country Club and the Hurlingham Club, in order to preserve the grounds of the AAP Headquarters, in Pilar, where several games and tourmanents are played thoroghout the season.
With regards to the format, the Hurlingham Open (Ayshire Cup) will be played at single elimination, starting with the quarter finals. The Drysdale Cup will be the Subsidiary Trophy. The Tortugas Open will see eight teams split in two leagues, and the winners of each league are set to play the final.
The Argentine Polo Open Championship will have ten teams; the eight highest rated lineups will be joined by other two teams from the Qualification Tournament. Teams will be split in two leagues, and the league winners will be able to play the most important tournament of the world.
Meanwhile, the Qualification Tournament Copa Remonta y Veterinaria, that awards two spots to play at Palermo, will see nine teams, split in three leagues: Alegría, Nuestra Tierra, Cañuelas, La Esquina, La Irenita II, Don Ercole, El Overo Z7 UAE, La Fija and La Cañada LE. The three league winners will qualify as well as the best second (through a penalty shootout). There will be a draw to determine the two matches to be played at Palermo. The winners, will play Palermo.
