The British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup, Cowdray Park Polo Club’s main competition of the club set in Midhurst, West Sussex, England, continued on Friday June 28, with a double matchdate, and debut wins for Green Gates and Valhalla.

Green Gates and La Dolfina Murus Sanctus – who lost their first match – opened fire, in a contest that had five very leveled and hard fought first four chukkas. Green Gates took the lead in the fifth chukka, and although Murus Sanctus presented battle in the last chukka, luck was on Green Gates’ side who claimed a very important 12-10 victory. It’s worth to notice the outstanding performance delivered by Francisco Elizalde, who produced nine goals.

Desert Palm, who also lost in their debut game, met newcomers Valhalla in the second game. Both teams played a very close match until the fourth chukka, when Desert Palm took off and outscored their contenders 3-0. However, Valhalla bounced back and produced four unanswered goals in the fifth chukka to close the gap to just one goal. In the last chukka, both teams fought hard until the last minutes; at the end of the day, Valhalla were victorious by a tight 10-9 score.
