Scone and Marqués de Riscal were victorious in the opening day of the British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup, following their respective wins over Vikings and BP Polo respectivamente, on Tuesday June 27. The competition, established in 1956, and hosted by Cowdray Park Polo Club, set in Midhurst, West Sussex, England, is one of the three Grand Slams del Polo, alongside the Argentine Open and the US Open, and the highlight of the English season. The 2023 edition of this historical tournament, sees fifteen teams up to 22 goals, in participation.

Scone and Vikings opened fire, and David Paradice’s lineup had no trouble at all to defeat Vikings 11-5, and claimed the first trophy of the day, the Carlos Gracida Memorial Trophy, a tribute to the legendary and unforgettable Mexican player, and a ten times winner of the British Open. In the first chukka, Adoldo Cambiaso had a fall, and despite he managed to continue, he had to be subbed in by Tomás Panelo from the second chukka onwards. In the follow-up, Guillermo Caset delivered a remarkable performance, by producing ten goals to secure Marqués de Riscal a 14-7 win over BP Polo.
