The British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup, hosted by Cowdray Park Polo Club, set in Midhurst, West Sussex, England, resumed on a busy Thursday June 27, with three games that saw King Power, Gaston and Marqués de Riscal victorious over Black Bears, Bangash and La Magdeleine, respectively.

 

King Power opened fire against Black Bears, in a match that remained quite leveled until the fourth chukka. The Thai foursome took off in the fifth chukka, and enlarged their gap that led them to a 14-11 win. King Power’s Top Srivaddhanaprabha was subbed in by Estanislao Darritchon,

 

The clash of the French teams came next – Gaston defeated La Magdeleine by an impressive 13-7 score, led by a powerful Cruz Heguy, who produced eight goals. Following a close start, Gaston seized the reins from the second chukka on, widening their advantage that allowed them to remain in the lead thoroghout the remaining of the game.

 

Last but not least, Marqués de Riscal, one of last year’s semifinalists, displayed a solid team play to dominate the match and the score to earn a 13-7 victory over newcomers, Bangash.

Marqués de Riscal 10-6 Bangash

Score Marqués de Riscal: 3-1, 5-1, 7-3, 9-4, 10-5, 10-6.

 

Action for the British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup will resume on Friday June 28, with the following order of play:

12pm: Green Gates vs. La Dolfina  Murus Sanctus

3pm: Desert Palm vs. Valhalla

 

The final of the British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup is due on Sunday July 21.
