The draw for the British Open Polo Championship Cowdray Gold Cup took place on Monday, June 6, at Cowdray Park Polo Club, set in Midhurst, West Sussex. Cowdray Park Polo Club’s most prestigious tournament was first established in 1956 by Lord Weetman John Churchill Pearson, Third Viscount Cowdray, the force behind the revival of polo in England after the Second World War. The Gold Cup, one of the most important polo tournaments in the world, is one of the three Grand Slams of Polo, alongside the Argentine Open and the US Open.

The biggest news of the tournament is the comeback of Talandracas, Edouard Carmignac’s French team, to the competition. The team did not compete in the Queen’s Cup.

The 2022 edition of the Cowdray Gold Cup will run from Tuesday, June 21 to Sunday, July 17. Fourteen teams, up to 22 goals, will compete for the coveted golden trophy.
