The British Open Gold Cup continued on Sunday, July 4, with Murus Sanctus and Scone claiming respective victories over Vikings and Park Place. While both matches were completely different, both finished 9-8. The tournament, hosted by Cowdray Park Polo Club, in Midhurst, West Sussex, is one of the three Grand Slams of Polo, alongside the Argentine Open and the US Open. Thirteen teams, up to 22 goals, are in competition.

First up, Murus Sanctus were forced to fight hard to beat Vikings. In the second match, Scone was overwhelmed by Park Place (who received one goal on handicap). The latter dominated the action, securing a commanding 7-2 lead by half time. Scone, however, made an impressive comeback in the remaining chukkas, achieving two consecutive ties (7-7 and 8-8), and ultimately sending the match into overtime. That was the moment that Isidro Strada came through for the team, scoring his sixth goal of the day to give David Paradice’s team a remarkable victory.

The British Open Gold Cup continues on Monday, July 5:

12pm: Thai Polo vs. King Power (Brooks)

3pm: UAE Polo Pod vs. Emlor (Ambersham 3)

The Gold Cup final is set for Sunday, July 25.
