Following a new matchdate for the British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup, played on Thursday July 4, Dubai secured their spot in quarter finals, and therefore joined La Dolfina Great Oaks in the tournament’s next stage. Meanwhile, Talandracas is on the verge to step into the next phase. The competition, the highlight of the English season, is hosted by Cowdray Park Polo Club, and sees eighteen teams up to 22 goals, partake.

 

Dubai and Marqués de Riscal opened fire. The Emirati lineup, that has Lolo Castagnola as the coach, was unbeaten and only needed a win to get into the next stage; the Spaniard team had a 1-1 record. But Dubai overwhelmed their contenders and managed to control the match and the scoreboard. It led the to an impressive 10-5 win and the second ticket to quarter finals.

 

Up next, Talandracas met Ferne Park, and the two of them teams needed a win to maintain hopes to qualify to the next stage. In a very hard fought contest, both lineups exchanged the leadership thoroghout the six chukkas of play, but at the end of the day, luck was on the Carmignac family’s team side, who managed to seal the deal in the last chukka.

11:30am: Gaston Polo vs Black Bears

3pm: King Power vs La Magdeleine 

 

The final of the British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup is due on Sunday July 21.
