The semifinals of the high goal Terralpa Silver Cup, for the ECS 360 Cup, took place on Wednesday. BN Polo and Ayala were victorious in their respective matches, and both teams secured a spot in the final, set to be played on Saturday. The tournament marks the second stage of the 50th Anniversary Torneo Internacional de Polo by La Reserva Club de Sotogrande.

The first semifinal, played on ground 2 at Santa María Polo Club, saw BN Polo bounce back to tie the match in the last minute of play, sending the match into extra chukka. That was when Hilario Ulloa took possession of the ball and scored the winning goal to give BN Polo a place in the final.

Up next, Ayala faced BP Polo on ground 3. Iñigo Zobel’s foursome dominated the match from the first minute. Polito Pieres gave a remarkable performance, scoring five unanswered goals to take a crucial 5-0 lead. From that moment onwards, Ayala widened their advantage chukka after chukka, securing an 8 goal gap by the end of the game. It was a fantastic comeback to high goal for Ayala. After years of absence, they qualified for the final. 

The Terralpa Silver Cup resumes on Friday, August 13, as Cibao La Pampa and John Smith go head-to-head for the medium goal title. 

Sotogrande’s 50th anniversary tournament is being played at Ayala Polo Club, Santa María Polo Club, and Dos Lunas Polo & Dressage. The tournament sees twelve teams, split into two categories, compete. The high goal is for 18-20 goal teams, while the medium goal is for 12-14 goal teams.
