Bientina claimed an impressive 18-6 win over SD Farms and obtained the Ylvisaker Cup, the second leg of the NPC 16-goal Championship (Wellington Tour). The 16-goal series is composed of four qualyfing tournaments – Joe Barry Memorial Cup, Ylvisaker Cup, Iglehart Cup and Outback Cup, and will come to an end on Sunday April 13, at the National Polo Center (NPC), in Wellington, Florida, United States. The contest, that kicked off on January 28, saw twelve teams up to 16 goals, partake. Teams were split in four leagues.
The championship match of the Ylvisaker Cup was played on Sunday February 16, and the whole game belonged to a strong Bientina foursome, who completely overwhelmed SD Farms. They took a quick 3-1 advantage in the first chukka, and seized the reins thoroghout the whole game. By half time Valentino Carlotti’s lineup had a heavy 11-2 lead, and the deal was said and done in the fifth chukka, when the scoreboard read a 18-3, that left SD Farms with no chances at all. At the end of the day, Bientina were victorious 18-6 and took the Ylvisaker Cup home.
The Ylvisaker Cup, established in 2003, is named after William T. “Bill” Ylvisaker, a true pioneer of the sport and the responsible for developing the Wellington area, in Florida, into a high-goal winter polo. The founder of the Palm Beach Polo and Country Club, Bill Ylvisaker contributed extensively to spread not only polo but also other equestrian sports, in the 70s and 80s.
