Habtoor Polo have done it again! Mohammed Al Habtoor’s team claimed the Bentley Emirates Silver Cup for the second year in a row, following a 9-7 win over UAE Polo on Saturday, February 5, at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The tournament forms part of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series, the most prestigious polo event in Asia and the Middle East. The tournament saw seven teams, up to 18 goals, compete.
The final saw Mohammed Al Habtoor socre the first goal of the match, but Tommy Beresford and Lukin Monteverde went on to secure a 2-1 lead for UAE Polo by the end of the first chukka. Habtoor fought back to close the gap in the following chukkas. They managed to tie the game 7-all with only one chukka left to play. In a thrilling last chukka, a determined Habtoor held UAE back and remounted a fierce attack, with goals by Matias Gonzalez and MVP Bautista Bayugar. They were 9-7 up by the time the final bell rang, meaning they secured the victory and the title for a second year in a row.
Prior to the final, Bangash Dodson & Horrell claimed a narrow 10-10.5 victory over Dubai Wolves by CAFU to win the Subsidiary Hildon Cup. Benjamín Panelo secured the win for Bangash after scoring two goals in the last to take the half goal advantage.
