Ghantoot Racing Polo & Club, the fabulous club located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, hosted the finals of the Emirates Polo Championship International, that took place on Saturday February 8. Lamar and El Basha played the Subsidiary final, while Abu Dhabi and Bin Drai went head-to-head for the big title.
Lamar and El Basha opened fire, in the match for the Subsidiary Trophy, Lamar, who received half goal on handicap, displayed their best polo, but El Basha were real tough contenders. In the two following chukkas, El Basha bounced back, and took the lead. At the end of the day, a great goal by Javier Guerrero was enough to secure El Basha the 5.5-5 win.
Up next, Abu Dhabi and Bin Drai clashed for the Emirates Polo Championship International. It’s worth to notice that both teams already met in the last league game, with Bin Drai victorious after a hard fought contest. This final saw two tied chukkas, but Abu Dhabi took off in the third. Bautista Bello was Faris Al Yabouni’s lineup leading man, and produced seven goals, to seal the deal. Therefore, Abu Dhabi won 12-10. Out of four finals they played, Abu Dhabi claimed two, being the previous one the Sultan Bin Zayed Cup.
