The 130th. Argentine Polo Open resumed on Monday November 6, with the matchdate that was postponed on Saturday November 4, due to rainfalls. Cría La Dolfina earned their second win in the tournament, and reigning champions made a remarkable debut. The two Cañuelas based teams defeated La Esquina and La Hache Cría & Polo, respectively.
Cría La Dolfina and La Esquina played the day’s opening match, that started with a very dynamic and well played first chukka, that had a total of seven goals scored, and ended up with Cría La Dolfina 4-3 up, led by the lethal duo composed of Diego Cavanagh (who was back on the saddle after recovering from an injury on a finger he suffered in the debut match) and Tomás Panelo. Cría La Dolfina outscored La Esquina 3-0 in the second chukka, and claimed a 7-3 advantage. But at the start of the third chukka, La Esquina’s Lucas James had to leave the field due to an injury and was subbed in by Lerin Zubiaurre. Meanwhile, as the play resumed, Cría La Dolfina widened their advantage to 10-3; but in the fourth chukka, La Esquina got into the match, led by Iñaki Laprida’s remarkable performance, who produced eigth of the ten goals for Pascual Sainz de Vicuña’s foursome. But luck was on Cría La Dolfina’s side; they had the deal said and done in the seventh chukka, when they earned an impressive 16-8 advantage. And although Iñaki Laprida managed to score twice in the last chukka, the efforts didn’t pay off, and at the end of the day, Cría La Dolfina took a very important second win at Palermo.
Up next, current reigning champions, La Dolfina Saudi made their debut in the Open against La Hache Cría & Polo. Following a leveled start, La Dolfina Saudi seized the reins from the second chukka onwards. They widened their lead chukka after chukka, sweeping a somewhat lost La Hache Cría & Polo, who were able to score only three goals (one by Facundo Sola and two by Joaquín Pittaluga). For La Dolfina Saudi, the match was literally a walk in the park, and their dominance over their opponents was truly overwhelming. Indeed, the combination between father and son, Adolfo and Poroto Cambiaso was crucial in order to obtain the win – between the two of them they produced fifteen goals. And although they had the deal almost said and done in the sixth chukka (12-3), they went for more in the last two chukkas. It was Pelón Stirling who put the icing on the cake in the last chukka, to claim an impressive 19-3 victory.
