UAE & Desert Palm: First Final of the Gold Cup Series
February 2, 2017
The Al Habtoor Polo Club and Resort will host the first final of the 2017 Gold Cup Series on Friday February 3, at 3pm - UAE and Desert Palm are due to play for the coveted 18-goal McLaren Silver Cup.
There is a very interesting detail regarding the championship match: UAE and Desert Palm met in their debut game, with UAE claiming an 11-6 win. The final will give UAE an opportunity to end the tournament in the same way they started, while giving Desert Palm a chance to get one back on their opponents.
With Guillermo Terrera filling in for Lucas Monteverde, UAE added a win to their record in the qualifying stage, beating Wolves (13-6). They then lost to Habtoor Polo (8-9), before going on to play the quarter finals. In this stage of the competition, they beat Mahra 9.5-7 and advanced to the final following a victory over Bin Drai, by the same score.
Desert Palm lost to both UAE and Habtoor Polo (8-9), but they claimed an impressive 13-6 win against Wolves. Like UAE, Desert Palm played the quarter finals, where they defeated title holders Zedan by 8 goals to 7 in extra chukker. They then took another OT win in semifinals, this time the rematch against Habtoor Polo (8-7).
It is expected to be a fantastic Friday at Al Habtoor Polo Club and Resort. The club will be open to families and friends to enjoy the many attractions, including the match between Mahra and Zedan for the Subsidiary Hildon Cup, at 1pm.
