At the beginning of August, it was confirmed that Pablo Mora Figueroa became the new President of the Santa María Polo Club in replacement of his brother Ramón. Pablo Mora Figueroa, also a polo player, spoke to Pololine on the challenges that the club has and the way to attract more people to polo in Sotogrande.

On the challenges for the Santa María Polo Club: "For us is absolutely key to keep the quality of the grounds, we need to continue to have the best polo grounds in Europe. We have the climate, we should and we can we do it, we are absolutely focus on that; that will attract the big patrons and the big players. If they have the good climate, the beaches, the nightclubs, and whatever, but they don’t have good grounds, they won’t be willing to come and play here. We need the big players and the big patrons saying that the best place to play polo in the world away from Argentina is Sotogrande because of the polo grounds. At the same time we need to create some attraction between all the members of the polo world. We need to create that feeling that polo used to have some years ago where we play polo, we enjoyed the night time, we went for dinner. We lost that, and that is something we should be able to create here. It’s not only about going to the match and play and see each other three days later in the second match. Maintain the quality of the grounds and create a good atmosphere around polo to be almost friends. Move all the polo world all together around Sotogrande.”

On how to attract more people to polo: "You need to create attractions around polo. At the end of the road, to bring brands to polo, the big sponsorship to polo it’s not only a matter of the 2000 people who come to a final. You need to create attractions around polo and not only the famous people who come to certain matches. Polo is enough attractive itself to bring sponsorship. We need to spread that attractive that polo has. Perhaps, creating events with the good matches. And if you create an event which brings people from all around and at the end of that event there is a polo match, that will attract people to see that polo match. Create the need on the media to come here and know about polo. We need to be very creative to be able to spread the attraction that polo has.”
